Here are our choices for the pre-season. Only a few weeks away from opening outdoors, let's all hope this cold weather clears out soon and doesn't delay the start of the 2018 season.
*** note teams must be affiliated with PWSA as of today to appear on ranking lists, and we're aware of possible teams missing from those lists, as they change our Top-10 on the main page may change.
U19 Tier 1
We have Waterloo at the #1 spot, reasoning is this core group has made National appearances in each of the last three seasons, a number of roster players are now playing for college teams or have committed to college teams, no reason to expect this group won’t continue to be the cream of the crop this coming season at Midget 1. Perhaps a surprise to some, but we will peg the crew from Oakville to be the best challenger to the Ghosts this year, again this core team has been at the top for several years now, and they’ve added some additional talent to the roster this year that makes them immediately a contender at Midget 1. Rounding out our Top-5 are Windsor Wildcats, Brampton – Murray & Brampton - Alexander.
U16 Tier 1
When you qualify for Nationals as a 1st year team, are bringing back almost the same roster with some talented additions you get the nod for #1, so it will be the Vaughan Vikings 02 squad in the first spot heading into the season. Our logic remains the same for our pick as #2, Waterloo Ghosts Gold, qualified for Nationals last year as (Waterloo Black), have added some hold-over players from the other Ghosts team (also a National attendee) so no reason to think they can’t be at the top of the heap this season. Rounding out our Top-5, we have UTM Revolution 2K2, Mississauga North Tigers 02, and the Windsor Wildcats.
With upwards of 50+ teams expected in Novice, it can be hard to get these right and likely there could be a fair amount of up’s and down’s on this list over the first month, but for now we will trend with the Fan Poll and give the #1 spot to the Brampton Blazers Gold squad. We do remember the Burgundy team from 2017, and recognize they were a tough out for anyone, so no reason to suspect the same won’t happen this year as the Gold squad. The #2 spot goes to the Kitchener Klassics Black, as a 1st year team last year they made “A” pool, dominated league play and faired quite well at all tournaments. They return all the key players, so again we think they will be very tough this season. Our other Top-5 teams, Waterloo Ghosts Gold, Vaughan Vikings 04, and Springfield Brewers 04.
U19 Tier 2
We will give the #1 spot on the Tier 2 side to Waterloo Ghosts Black, they return many players from last season, but have added several players with Tier 1 experience as well. They will need to challenge themselves early this season to see if they can keep this spot, but we think they likely can do so. A new program gets the #2 ranking, the Ontario Yankees out of the Ajax area are ready for the coming season, and are expected to be a factor come August. Rounding out the Top-5 we have LaSalle Athletics Gold, Kitchener Klassics, and the Palmerston Marlins.
U16 Tier 2
We have some key teams not affiliated as of yet, but that being said we’re quite comfortable with our Top-5. With an appearance at Nationals last season in U14 we will give LaSalle Athletics the #1 spot on this list, but recognize that we aren’t fully up to speed on some of the player movement among the Windsor programs. So we shall see early if this placement was a good one. We will put a surprise team in at #2, as the Fan Poll doesn’t agree with us but we’re confident that the Brantford Bobcats Red squad will be a good club at this level in 2018. Our Top-5 also includes the Oakville Angels 03, South Ottawa Angels, and the Palmerston Marlins 03 teams.
Enjoy the debate on placement everyone. Our next set of rankings will be released at the end of April. Reminder you can participate in our Fan Polls right on our Power Rankings page!
