Ranking Updates

UTM Power Rankings June 20

(Waterloo ON) We did see some U16 & U19 activity last weekend, but for the most part these age categories are somewhat in hiberation until High School exams run their course. Last weekend was a big one however for U14 and U12 divisions with UTM's Big Show, and Cambridge's John Cross Memorial Tournament attacting a nice number of teams across the board. Upcoming this weekend we have the Vaughan Vikings Summer Challenge Tournament, and the weather looks to be perfect. Lots of games this weekend at Tudor Park. We have also seen on social media some teams are heading to Darien Lake, and Toledo this weekend for US tournament action.

U19 Tier 1

No movement on the U19 Tier 1 chart. A few teams were stateside last weekend, looks like almost everyone will be down this weekend as the weekend comes smack in the middle of the high school exam period. Really as we look at Ontario Tournaments, there isn't but one left on the U19 Tier 1 schedule, and that is the Super Max event taking place in Mississauga. Otherwise these teams will be getting game experience over the next few weeks with friendlies and US travel events. We wish all athletes in U19 Tier 1 the best of luck on their final exams and assignments!

Alright, we finally had a good chance to see the U16 Tier 2 side at the Queen of Diamonds Event. Here are some updated rankings based a great deal on what happened at this event. Port Perry Angels by virtue of winning the QOD event are now the new number 1 ranked team. We have slotted Windsor Wildcats Black in right behind them, followed by Milton Bats and Brantford Bobcats. We will see two additional tournaments and the results over the next 7-days to help better nail down these teams ranking wise. This division has a tonne of teams this year. Great to see!

U14 Tier 1

Following the 15-team battle at the Big Show, here are the fall-out rankings based on the data from last weekend's event. We thank all the teams for a great weekend of softball, and wish everyone the best of luck the 2nd half of the 2019 season. No change to our #1 team as the Vikings once again ran the table for a 7-0-0 record at the Big Show event last week. Perhaps the best part however was seeing how many teams are very close to the Vikings which should make for an awesome stretch run, and amazing National Qualifier tournament in a few weeks.

Rank Team Last High Low Comments
1 Vaughan Vikings 05 1 1 1 Big Show Champs going a perfect 7-0-0 on the weekend
2 Halton Hawks 05 3 2 4 Up to the #2 spot following a 7-2-0 record on the weekend. Good run Sunday for the Hawks!

U14 Tier 2

Unsure why but Barrie organizers combined the T1 and T2 divisions in Barrie this weekend making for some mixed results. Some Tier 1 teams as mentioned on the list above elected to play U16 Tier 2 for an added challenge. Lots of the top-10 here will be hoping for some better weather than what is forecast as they head to participate in the UTM Big Show. Some of these same teams endured a rain onslaught last year at the U12 Big Show tournament. Cursed maybe?

Rank Team Last High Low Comments
1 Etobicoke Mayhem 1 1 - Undefeated weekend at the Big Show, had a chance to meet the coaches, nice bunch
2 Arthur Twisters 2 2 - Only loss game in the gold medal game vs the Mayhem
3 Miss North Tigers 06 3 1 3 Just the one loss in the semi-final game vs Etobicoke
4 Oakville Angels 06 4 3 6 Looked dominant in the round robin, only loss eventually to Arthur
5 Vaughan Vikings 06 5 2 5 Qualified for A bracket, lost in the round of 8 vs the Tigers
6 Brantford Bobcats Red 6 5 - One of the few on this list that wasn't at the UTM Big Show tournament

10 Barrie Storm 10 10 - Will keep on our list again for the 2nd straight week

U12

Our leaders waged another war in the final of the John Cross Tournament in Cambridge this past weekend. This time it was the Hurricanes getting the win, and the gold medal. They once again assume the #1 spot, while Cambridge slips to the 2nd spot once again. These teams could flip weekly, we shall see if the next teams on this list can rise to the challenge and separate the first two from their stangle-holds on these positions over the last month.
