We received numerous requests to provide final UTM Power Rankings for the 2017 season. As mentioned in our last post it was a very busy time as we were tracking and providing coverage of the Canadian Championships at U16, U18 and then to a lesser extent the U14 this past weekend (in part because the host provided good updates themselves).
Here are the final rankings...
- performance is limited to the end of PWSA play for 2017
- we did not factor in team performance at any Softball Canada championship (in part because of pick-ups, unbalanced schedules, etc)
U12 - Halton 05' maintains the #1 ranking, that they held virtually all season with a Gold Medal win at provincials. Halton 05' was challenged a couple of times at the championship which was nice to see. However in the end they proved to all that they were the #1 ranked team for a reason.
U14 - Brampton Gold played Richmond Hill in the championship game and it was a great match. Those teams end the season 1 & 2. Most of the remaining Top-10 teams come from the PWSA "A" pool even if some of them didn't get a National bid.
U16 - We have previously commented on this group. Oakville again was our #1 ranked team since pre-season and they showed why at provinicals. On the Tier 2 side, we have made some adjustments to the top-10 following the final tournament. Congrats to the Hurricanes and Lakers on finishing 1 and 2 respectfully.
U18 - We have likewise commented already on this group. On the Tier 2 side, again adjustments have been made to account for the performance of the Angels and Hurricanes at provinicals.
**We have locked this post for comments and feedback. As we have stated repeatedly these are strictly the opinions and rankings of UTM Fastpitch, others may agree or disagree. At the end of the day these rankings are meant to encourage teams to challenge themselves, and aren't meant to create controversy or make players, coaches or parents upset.**
U14 Nationals are in progress, and U12 Grands are this weekend. Over the past 2+ weeks now the site has focused on trying to provide as many updates on the U18, U16 and U14 National tournaments as possible. This has meant it has been difficult to get an updated rankings out.
We do not want to publish a new set of rankings at this time, because we do not want to place any additional pressure, or create and drama at the parks for these big events taking place. We firmly believe in our Power Ranking feature on the site, we are at this time just electing to not publish a new set of rankings with all that has been going on.
To those that have been asking, and those that have followed this aspect of the UTM site this season. Thank you! We will definitely continue with these next season, and will work on a method to ensure they are even more in depth than in seasons past.
Good luck to all teams wrapping up their 2017 seasons over the next couple of weeks.
Watch for the updated UTM Power Rankings coming August 14 following this weekend's events.

We are back with an updated UTM Power Ranking list for the U12 to U18 divisions this week. Last week the long weekend prevented us from updating our numbers, but we are back on track and have made some changes to many of the top-team lists below.
This weekend we have many of the Bantam and Midget teams playing down in various events in the United States, we have Ontario events taking place in Mississauga, Niagara and Stratford. Good luck to all teams wherever your travels take you.
Hard to imagine but by next week the U18 Midget teams will be hot and heavy into their provincial championship taking place in Mississauga. We have the Waterloo Ghosts as the #1 seed, and we have now moved the Windsor Wildcats to the #2 ranked team. This is based on the excellent W-L record the team has compiled in events down in the United States. Should be an excellent event next weekend.
No real movement on this top-10 list. Kitchener Black remains in the #1. They played well this past weekend but did end up lower than the LaSalle Athletics, so expect these teams to do battle again before all is said and done at provincials. UTM East remains in the mix, they performed well in a rain shortened event in Quebec last weekend.
We are now fast approaching the end of June... crazy how fast time goes by. We all practice for months on end indoors, and then in the blink of an eye we're already at or past the 1/2 way part of the season depending on the age group(s) you follow. Here are the UTM Power Rankings for June 23rd...
We push on forward another week, the Barrie Bash held this past weekend provided some good data to help re-assess the Power Rankings from U12 to U18 this week. No time to add the graphics this week, so without further hoopla here are the updated rankings heading into Cambridge John Cross Tournament & the UTM Big Show for U12 and U14.
Here are the UTM Power Rankings for the week of June 9, 2017:
We have changed the format of this page to make it easier to provide commentary on each of the ranking sets.
