(Toledo, OH) Revolution 2K4 participated in their first US event this past weekend and showed very well earning many wins Friday, Saturday, and early Sunday before bowing out in the final four of the Early Bird Classic in Toledo, Ohio. Rain hampered the event for parts of Saturday, and while UTM was lucky to get their games in, the Sunday schedule was set-up tough for anyone to make it to the final. Able to play at the 14U level down in the US this year because of their 2004 birth year, the event showcased all the good things about this team.
Sarah Kent got things started for UTM in the opener on Friday afternoon, she pitched a great game allowing 0-runs, 0-hits and striking out 11 batters. She earned the win. Offensively it was Michelle Brooks with 2-RBI helping the 2K4 team to a 6-1 final score over the Wizards Inferno program. In the second of two games Friday evening, UTM quickly built up a lead and never looked back in an 11-0 win over the Pittsburgh Power. Sydney Allison and Avery Curran led the team offensively each knocking in 3-RBI in the game, Curran was also credited with a home-run.
Saturday AM, before the rain UTM overcame a 2-run deficit to defeat the Sliderz Elite program by a final score of 5-2. A well pitched game by Sarah Kent, and Tierney Hocquard held their opponents in check and allowed the UTM offense to finally crack the opposing pitcher and take the lead. Kent contributed on offense with 3-hits, as did Sydney Allison. Avery Curran hit her 2nd home-run in as many games in this one as well. This improved the record at the event to 3-0-0. The next game was against the NWO Heat, and the UTM offense continued where it was the previous game and quickly jumped to a 7-run lead and coasted to a final score of 8-1. Kaylee Fishback and Avery Curran each had 2-hits on offense, and Curran continued her hot streak at the plate notching 2 more RBI's. Tierney Hocquard earned the win, allowing only the one run, while striking out 8 batters.
Sunday morning UTM added to the win total earning a lopsided win vs the Erie Diamonds. This game was quickly over as UTM put up 11 runs in the top of the first inning. Offensively there were many solid performances in this shortened game, including Avery Curran who contributed another 4-RBI's in this one. Lauren Artt also added 3-RBI's. A match with a fellow Canadian team was next in the playoff round. LaSalle Athletics scored twice in the top of the 1st inning, but ITM responded with three runs in the bottom half and then would never look back as they earned the 6-2 win. Hayley Shackell knocked in a pair of runs on offense. Tierney Hocquard was solid on the mound going the distance and only allowing 3-hits. In the next game (semi-final) the Heat finally stopped the hot UTM bats, and took the game by a final score of 3-0. Neither team really generated much on offense, and the game went by quickly with no real chances by either team.
Playing in the US, and going 6-1-0 is a great weekend, for the UTM Revolution 2K4. They're in action again this week supporting the University of Waterloo Warriors Tournament in Waterloo.
